It is normal to feel fear or anxiety occasionally. For example when we are faced with potential danger such as a car swerving into our lane or getting a phone call about a friend or family member being hurt. Our bodies have an internal alarm system to warn us and respond to danger. Our system floods with adrenaline to prepare to take immediate action of some sort, “fight or flight”.Our anxiety becomes problematic when our bodies react in the same way in the absence of present danger. We may feel out of control and powerless to stop the worry and fear. Our anxiety is likely negatively interfering with our work, school, social interactions, ability to drive, self-worth, etc. You likely feel stressed out often. You feel overwhelmed. Perhaps irritable. Have difficulties sleeping. Frequent headaches or stomachaches. Your mind races and you can’t seem to get to slow down. Therapy can help with this.

There are lots of contributing factors to anxiety disorders. both long and short-term. Long-term causes include but are not limited to heredity, childhood circumstances (invalidating/critical environment, overly cautious/fearful caregivers, suppression of feelings by others), build-up of stress over time, and medical conditions.
Short-term triggers may include a significant loss or life change, experiencing a traumatic event or series of events, divorce, or move to name just a few. -
